Azizul Haque, Uttar Pradesh :
Born in a hereditary weaver family of Benaras or
Varanasi where the tradition of Jala making has been his family vocation for the last two
hundred years, Azizul Haque learnt the techniques of paper designs, Jala making, weaving
and brocade designing from a very young age.
Azizul Haque comes from a well-known family of weavers from
Benaras. His grandfather, Kalloo Hafiz, twice won National
Awards and his father Mohammed Jaffer Ali, an excellent brocade designer whose
Baluchar wall hanging is a witness to his remarkable skill and imagination which won
him a National Award. Azizul Haque is continuing the tradition of Jala making and weaving
and has kept the ancient art of weaving alive.
