Dayaben B. Dohat, Gujarat :Dayaben B. Dohat hails from a family of traditional Kutchi
embroiderers. Her initial training commenced at the age of eleven through her mother Smt.
Raniben Ratilal who migrated to India from Pakistan during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.
Dayaben has created a number of tablecloths,
cushion covers & wall hangings and a close look at her creations shows her mastery
over her fine and intricate craft. She has demonstrated these activities in the
demonstration programmes organised by the National Handloom & Handicrafts Museum at
New Delhi.
National Award Winner in 1990 Dayaben
conducts training classes for women under the Gujarat Governments Training Programme
along with continuing to research on embroidery and create beautiful quality work. Dayaben
is the mother of a very young son and is assisted by her husband Bhujaji who helps in
organising training classes and marketing of her classical work to various cities.
