Dayaben B. Dohat, Gujarat :

Dayaben B. Dohat hails from a family of traditional Kutchi embroiderers. Her initial training commenced at the age of eleven through her mother Smt. Raniben Ratilal who migrated to India from Pakistan during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.

Dayaben has created a number of tablecloths, cushion covers & wall hangings and a close look at her creations shows her mastery over her fine and intricate craft. She has demonstrated these activities in the demonstration programmes organised by the National Handloom & Handicrafts Museum at New Delhi.

National Award Winner in 1990 Dayaben conducts training classes for women under the Gujarat Government’s Training Programme along with continuing to research on embroidery and create beautiful quality work. Dayaben is the mother of a very young son and is assisted by her husband Bhujaji who helps in organising training classes and marketing of her classical work to various cities.
