 Activist designer K.B. Jinan who is an
Engineering graduate and is a post-graduate in product design from National Institute of
Design, Ahmedabad, began his association with a community of traditional potters during
1992. Jinan's interventions helped the potters realise their latent creativity and skills,
enabled them to create their own tools, explore clay and develop designs and products,
thus creating an organisation Kumbham.
 Due to the Kumbham initiative, the potters
started exhibiting work table accessories like pen-stand, name-plate, clock-stand,
photo-frame, trays; kitchen and tableware items like dinner-set, cutlery-stand,
cooking vessels, pots, mugs; Architectural/ Household items like decorative tiles,
murals, wall lamp, coffee table; Landscaping items like garden lamps, garden furniture,
decorative lamps, water cascades.
 Jinan has done some major mural installation
works like kathakali mural at Hotel Fortune, Calicut, 4675 sq ft tree mural in
Shilpavedika Art and Craft multipurpose indoor auditorium in
Hyderabad, creeper mural at Hinduja's Guest House in Chennai, Trees mural at
Bangalore, Elephant mural at Taj Residency, Calicut. Jinan who has been invited to address
numerous meetings and conferences has helped in revival of craft and wants the Kumbham
organisation to be self-supporting. He has conducted exhibitions and workshops all over
India. He has conducted training demonstrations in various organisations promoting crafts.
