Kanaiyalal Mafatlal Salvi, Gujarat :
Patola weaving has been preserved by only two Salvi families who carry
on this superb craft in Patan, Gujarat. Kanaiyalal Mafatlal Salvi has been engaged in
Patola weaving since childhood. His handmade Patola fabrics are included in several
prominent museum collections in India, Japan, Britain, Switzerland and U.S.A. He has held
numerous exhibitions in India and abroad. Kanubhai has given demonstrations in Crafts
Museums, Surajkund Mela, Central Cottage Industries Emporium, New Delhi. He had also
demonstrated the Patola loom to former US President Jimmy Carter and Mrs.
 Carter when they visited India in
1978. He has displayed his craft in Festival of India at Japan and USSR through Ministry
of Textiles and Crafts Museum, New Delhi.Kanaiyalal and his wife Varsha Salvi conducted
workshops on the techniques of Patola weaving at Honolulu Academy of Arts in U.S.A. which
was extremely popular and well-attended and they also held an exhibition in East West
Center, Honolulu. He is constantly innovating with new designs like Navratan pattern and
Daccan Pallav.
