Malabhai is a well-known craftsman whose family has been living in village Nirona, Kutch for several generations. He lives with his wife, two sons and two daughters. His elder son assists him in his craftwork. Malabhai carves boxes and bottles as well as other articles from Babul wood, which are not lacquered. Malabhai’s ‘Navratri Dandias’ are very popular and he has innovatively added ghungroos at the end, which tinkle while playing dandia-raas. Table and “Charpai” legs are also a speciality. The lacquered articles include spatulas, ladles, spoons, rolling pins etc.
