Born in a hereditary
weaver family of Benaras or Varanasi where the tradition of Jala making has been his
family vocation for the last two hundred years, Azizul Haque learnt the techniques of
paper designs, Jala making, weaving and brocade designing from a very young age.
Azizul Haque comes from a well-known family
of weavers from Benaras. His grandfather, Kalloo Hafiz, twice won
National Awards and his father Mohammed Jaffer Ali, an excellent brocade
designer whose Baluchar wall hanging is a witness to his remarkable skill and
imagination which won him a National Award. Azizul Haque is continuing the tradition of
Jala making and weaving and has kept the ancient art of weaving alive.
