Kamal Narayan Lal Karn
and Savita Karn are both artists from Madhubani. As a child Kamal Narayan Lal Karn had
watched and helped his aunt Jagdamba Devi paint on the walls of houses in Bihar. His wife
Savita has inherited this art from the generations of women of Madhubani who have
practised this art in their daily life.
A state award winner in 1984-85, Kamal Narayan
Lal Karn hopes to win the national and international awards in future. Though painting on
new themes, Kamal Narayan Lal and Savita Karn have tried to retain the old tradition of
deriving colours from flowers and leaves.
A son, a daughter and two elder brothers who
live with them are also exponents of this art form.
